New Pottery Fall of 2012

I've been having great fun creating new pieces of pottery.  I am currently trying some red stoneware clay which is very nice and the glazes look great on it!  Here are some new pieces.  The First Bowl is made with a white porcelain clay body.  The rest of the pieces are in the new Red Stoneware clay!

All of these pieces have some slight carving in the inside center of the bowls.

New Pendants

A few more new pendants.  Geeting ready for the Holiday Shows!

Graveyard Agate

Russian Seraphinite

Yellow Moss Agate with Druzy

Rutilated Quartz

The Rutilated Quartz can be threads of gold, silver or titanium.   I just used a Rutile Wash (Rutile is a mineral composed primarily of titanium dioxide) over my glazes on the pottery yesterday!    I love how my two passions merge together at times!

Wow!    I am on a roll here!
These are two of my favorite stones.
One very pricey rare stone and one very ordinary agate that is an eye popper!

New Gemstone Pendants

I've been polishing rocks lately and have a few new wire wrapped pendants to show!

Polished Natural Garnet
This baby was a lot of work to polish! Each plane has to be polished from start to finish and then you start on another! I ended up having to put a dot of white-out on each face so I could keep track of which were polished and which where not.  It's a nice large size too!  Wrapped in copper wire for a different look.

Natural Round Polished Chrysocolla Gemstone

Chrysocolla is one of my favorite stones!  It is a member of the copper family and a close relative to turquoise. I prefer the high polish that I can acheieve on chrysocolla over turquoise myself.  This one is also wrapped in copper which compliments that natural stone.

Howlite
And last for this evening is a natural cabochon of Howlite which I cut and polished then wirewrapped in copper.  Howlite has been mistakenly called white buffalo turquoise for many years.  It is actually a total different mineral family and bears no relations to turquoise.   This stone polishes to an almost mirror bright polish.  A rough chunk of this stone looks rather like a dirty califlower!   There are grey lines that run through the stone.  This particular piece has little to no grey in it and is almost a pure white.  A nice piece.

What's coming up!

I am currently working on some rare and collectible stones that I have been saving.   I will start posting them as I finish them.  There will be a Lapis from Afganistan that is the most wonderful blue I think I have ever seen; a Biggs Picture Jasper that has super pictures; a blue and golden tiger eye that is eye catching; a red, yellow and blue tiger eye that is the last I have; a Gem Silica that is special; a purple charolite from Russia and last, but in no way least, a piece of purple Bertrandite which has see through opal lines and black dendrites that make up the most interesting pictures!   Stay tuned!
